Why Qonto is updating my IBAN?

  • Updated

Qonto is becoming a credit institution to strengthen its banking services. This requires updating the Framework Contract and, due to Italian regulatory requirements, a new institution code (ABI).

What it means for you: Your account, your funds, and your transaction history remain exactly the same—only the IBAN reference changes. You'll have 13 months during which both IBANs will work for incoming payments, and the new IBAN for outgoing payments.

How does the migration work?

The migration is completely automatic.

On May 6, 2026, you will receive a legal notification with your new IBAN and all necessary instructions.

On July 6, 2026, the new IBAN will be automatically created for all active main accounts and sub-accounts. From that moment, it will be used for all outgoing transfers. In your app, you'll only see the new IBAN, while the old one will no longer be visible but will remain active for receiving payments.

From July 6, 2026, to August 6, 2027, you have 13 months of transition during which both IBANs work for incoming payments.

After August 6, 2027, the old IBAN will be permanently deactivated, and payments sent to that reference will not go through.

☝️ If you do not accept the new Framework Contract, you have until July 6, 2026, to close your account without penalties.

What do I need to do during the migration?

You have 13 months (until July 31, 2027) to update your IBAN references with third parties. There's no urgency on the first day, but we recommend starting as soon as possible.

Make sure you've updated:

  • Suppliers and service providers for refunds or credits
  • Payment platforms (PayPal, Stripe, marketplaces)
  • Banks and financial institutions for transfers or connected services
  • Contracts, website, email signature, company materials

How will my account statements appear after the migration?

Account statements generated after July 6, 2026, will show both IBANs in the header:

  • New Italian IBAN: At the top, as the main IBAN to use
  • Old Italian IBAN: Below, with the note: "This IBAN has been replaced. Use the IBAN indicated above for all transfers."

After August 6, 2027, when the old IBAN is deactivated, it will no longer be shown on account statements.

Can I keep my old IBAN?

No, the migration applies to all Italian accounts. The ABI code is embedded in the Italian IBAN format, so when the code changes, the IBAN must change too. It is not technically possible to keep the old IBAN.

If you don't accept the change:

You can close your account by July 6, 2026, without penalties or additional costs. Contact Customer Service to initiate closure.

If you do nothing:

The new Framework Contract will be considered accepted by tacit consent, and the new IBAN will become active automatically from July 6, 2026.

Where can I see my old IBAN?

From July 6, 2026, the old IBAN will no longer be visible in the Qonto app to avoid confusion. You can find it in:

  • Account statements generated after July 6, 2026 (in the header)
  • Documents generated before July 6, 2026 (invoices, previous account statements)
  • Legal notification of May 6, 2026
