How to close my Qonto account?

  • Updated

You can withdraw from the Agreement at any time, with no closing fees or penalties.

You can notify us of your withdrawal in two ways:

  • by sending an email to support@qonto.com, or
  • directly from your Personal Account (web or app).

The withdrawal takes effect as soon as we receive your notification.

🖥️ Via web:

  1. Go to Settings > Plan and billing
  2. Click on Close account.
  3. Follow the steps through to the confirmation page.

📱 From the mobile app:

  1. Go to Menu > Settings.
  2. Select Close account.
  3. Follow the instructions through to the confirmation page.

Note: The account closure option is only available on app versions later than 20251121.0 (Android) / 20251124.0 (iOS).

☝️ If you have recently started the account opening process and your account is not yet active, you will not be able to proceed with the closure directly from your Personal Account, but you can still notify us of your withdrawal by email at support@qonto.com, requesting the closure of your account.

💡 If the withdrawal date falls before the end of the billing period, you will receive a pro-rata refund of the unused portion of your subscription fee. This amount will be credited to your account before it is definitively closed.

💡 At the time of your account closure, you will receive a pro-rata refund for the unused portion of your subscription fee, card subscription fees, and any subscription fee for the Spend Management add-on, covering the period from the closure date to the end of your current billing cycle.

What do I need to check before closing my account?

  • You must be the account holder: only the account holder can request the closure.
  • There must be no pending insolvency proceedings (e.g. compulsory liquidation). In such cases we can still register your request, but we will only be able to proceed once the proceedings have concluded.
  • Bring your balance to €0, or provide Qonto with the bank details (IBAN) of an account held in your name at a third-party institution.

👉 If the balance is not brought to zero and no bank details are provided for the transfer of the remaining funds, Qonto will close the account and transfer the balance to a technical account, pending receipt of the IBAN of an account held in your name at a third-party institution.

When will my account be definitively closed?

The withdrawal takes effect as soon as we receive your notification.

The definitive closure of your account normally takes place the day after the withdrawal right is exercised and, at the latest, by the end of the current month on the date the withdrawal right is exercised. You can track the progress of the account closure request in the web app (Account Settings > Plan and billing).

Can I reopen my account once it has been closed?

No, a closed account is permanently deactivated and cannot be reactivated in the future. Closure entails the permanent and irreversible deactivation of your IBAN, your cards, and the inability to receive or send transfers.

NB: You do not need to return your payment cards.

However, it is possible to cancel the account closure before the deactivation date by going to Account Settings > Plan and billing > Cancel closure (option available on mobile only) or by contacting Customer Care.

Does closing my account incur any costs?

No, closing your Qonto account is free of charge.

Do I still have access to my data after my account is closed?

Yes. Even after closure, you retain access to your transaction history and account statements, which Qonto retains for the period required by applicable regulations.

How can I hide a closed account in the app?

All accounts, including closed ones, remain visible in the top bar of the app.

If you would like to hide a closed account so it no longer appears, please contact our Support team.
